Therapeutic Benefits
BASIC is a mobility base frame designed to easily accommodate the seat unit from BINGO Evolution or any other orthopedic seating system or seat shell. This allows users to continue enjoying the benefits of a comfortable and optimally fitted seat unit in the home environment.
BASIC is also equipped with casters and, optionally, a push handle, making it easy to move around the room. Furthermore, the seat height can be adjusted quickly and easily using a clamp lever. One key feature is the ability to lower the seat height, allowing the child to reach their surroundings and, for example, join in on play activities happening on the floor with peers. This access to other children or people is enormously important for child development and has a major influence on the success of further therapy. It is precisely during the developmental phase that the course is set, and here it is also essential to provide the child with sufficient seating stability to compensate for the corresponding physical deficit. Therapeutically, this allows the focus to be placed on initiating physiological movement patterns and the targeted activation of the trunk-stabilizing muscles.
Of course, many other seat heights can also be adjusted continuously. This always enables effective interaction at eye level.
For optimal seating positioning, appropriate seat tilt is essential. BASIC allows for adjustment up to 30°.
Depending on the clinical presentation, the tilt function is an indispensable feature, both for therapeutic approaches and for everyday use.
Children who are unable to position themselves sufficiently independently require the special support of the adjustable seat unit. The seating position not only influences bodily functions and structures but also the user’s activity and participation.
It is important to note here:
- The switch between the three physiological seating variations - active, neutral, and passive seating positions - can be achieved through the mechanism, thereby ensuring a broad distribution of body weight pressure. This also serves to prevent pressure ulcers
- Furthermore, this constant variation results in the loading and unloading of all muscle groups. This regulation of muscle tone can, on the one hand, prevent spasms and, on the other, activate weak muscle groups. For example, a neutral or slightly negative seat angle emphasizes the dorsal (back) muscle chains, whereas a positive seat angle or a strongly tilted position tends to engage the ventral (abdominal) muscles.
- A seat angle of >90° can have a positive effect on leg extension spasticity
- A seat angle of <90°, on the other hand, tends to have a positive effect on a general extension pattern of the trunk
- Changing the spatial position stimulates the cardiovascular system, metabolism, and enhances perception by altering the field of view
- The potential change in pelvic angle and the resulting stimulation of the trunk muscles can stabilize the spine, thereby preventing or at least supporting cases of scoliosis
- The needs-based addition of lateral supports or harnesses promotes a physiologically and anatomically correct sitting position. The trunk stability achieved through this leads to optimal development of the child’s hand-eye coordination and the acquisition of physiological movement patterns of the upper extremities
