Today, the active wheelchair has become an indispensable part of pediatric rehabilitation. Developments over the years have shown that it is most beneficial therapeutically to tap into a person’s inherent physical potential as early as possible, thereby fostering independence. After all, self-determination in daily life and an autonomous life as “normal” as possible is the ultimate goal of every individual. CLEO addresses this need and enables even the youngest children to access their social environment, so that other important developmental milestones can be optimally supported.

If a child is unable to use their legs adequately due to a specific condition, a customized active wheelchair can provide access to an independent and active life and compensate for physical deficits as effectively as possible. Key therapeutic goals include:

As the name suggests, an active wheelchair is designed for active use. To achieve this, it is essential that the wheelchair is precisely tailored to the user and their needs and, especially in childhood, can be adapted to constantly changing physical conditions and developmental stages. However, certain physical requirements are also placed on the child. For example, the child should have a certain degree of trunk stability and be capable of actively positioning the pelvis.

CLEO is our active rigid-frame wheelchair for the youngest users. Especially at this age, when physiological movement patterns are still being initiated and learned and strength and endurance are not yet fully developed, the wheelchair must respond particularly easily to the child’s movements. A low weight is just as important here as smooth maneuverability and ease of use.                                              

What sets CLEO apart are its multifunctional base plates, which allow all key adjustments to be made quickly and easily without requiring any modifications to the chassis. There is no need to adjust the steering angle after the fact. Furthermore, this design eliminates the need for additional frame material, resulting in significant weight savings. A configuration is thus possible starting at just 6.85 kg.

Of course, CLEO also offers all the features you’d expect from an active wheelchair. In addition to extensive growth potential, it offers various adjustable seat angles and seat heights, as well as generous activity level and backrest angle adjustments. An optional version with steering and pushing assistance rounds out the package. This makes it easy to navigate even over rougher terrain.
