Therapeutic Benefits

This is the XL version of the SWINGBO 2. With a weight capacity of 100 kg, it is the most robust model in the entire SWINGBO family, offers seat widths ranging from 32 cm to 44 cm, and has a maximum adjustable seat height of 53 cm.

This system wheelchair bridges the gap between an active wheelchair and a passive positioning wheelchair. As a result, it also offers users with limited mobility the opportunity to tap into their active potential.

A key feature of this alternative to the SWINGBO VTi XL is its robust frame construction with abducted lower and upper rails. In addition to providing extra stability, this also offers some protection for the lower extremities. In addition, the frame allows the user to easily support themselves during transfers, facilitating a smooth transition. Of course, we also offer the same extensive range of accessories and various adjustment and custom made options, providing a solution tailored to the individual user.

Particularly noteworthy is the ability to tilt the seat from -5° to +45°.

Depending on the clinical condition, the tilt function is an indispensable feature, both for therapeutic purposes and for everyday use.

Children who are unable to position themselves sufficiently independently require the special support provided by the adjustable seat unit. The seating position not only influences bodily functions and structures but also the user’s activity and participation.

In addition to the tilt function, the SWINGBO 2 also features adjustable activity levels and a modular system. This allows the wheelchair to be continuously adapted to the user and their individual abilities, thereby significantly improving their coordination skills. As a result, independent participation in an active lifestyle is made possible.

In summary, it can be said that the various adjustment options for the seat surface, seat angle, and backrest angle, along with the extensive range of stabilizing accessories, offer the user the greatest possible safety and seating stability without compromising the chair’s active usability. Accessories, such as various push-handle options or custom made solutions, also make daily life easier for the caregiver.

It is important to note here:

  • The switch between the three physiological seating positions - active, neutral, and passive - can be achieved through the chair’s mechanics, ensuring broad distribution of body weight pressure while also preventing pressure ulcers.
  • Furthermore, this constant variation alternately engages and relieves all muscle groups. This regulation of muscle tone can, on the one hand, prevent spasms and, on the other, activate weak muscle groups. For example, a neutral or slightly negative seating angle emphasizes the dorsal (back) muscle chains, whereas a positive seating angle or a strongly tilted position tends to engage the ventral (abdominal) muscles.
  • A seat angle of >90° can have a positive effect on leg extensor spasticity.
  • A seat angle of <90°, on the other hand, tends to have a positive effect on a general trunk extension pattern.
  • A negative seat tilt simplifies transfers and can thus reduce spasms.
  • A change in spatial position stimulates the cardiovascular system and metabolism and enhances perception by altering the field of view.
  • By adjusting the pelvic angle and stimulating the trunk muscles, the spine can be stabilized, thereby preventing or at least supporting cases of scoliosis.
  • The needs-based addition of lateral supports or harnesses promotes a physiologically and anatomically correct sitting position. The trunk stability achieved through this leads to optimal development of the child’s hand-eye coordination and the acquisition of physiological movement patterns of the upper extremities.
